Based on real events, this story jumps from the book to the stage. We enter the memories of the main character, who remembers as a girl when she and her family had to flee the dictatorship of the Estado Novo at the end of the 1960s. Everything in her head is a tangle of images that are unraveled like the wool that comes loose from sweaters to form a ball of yarn.

This creation tells us about freedom, commemorating the 50th anniversary of April 25th.

We felt it was imperative to provide a poetic creation that bridged the gap between the art of puppetry, children and this feeling that is being celebrated this year, 2024, but which should undoubtedly always be celebrated at every moment of our lives. It is therefore a child that we cherish very much, from this national company that has taken great strides to establish itself as a major national structure in the art of national puppetry.

A Bolha - Teatro com Marionetas

Bolha - Teatro com Marionetas began to be dreamed up in 2016 by two people passionate about the artistic universe of puppets, Ana Mota Ferreira and Manel Bilro, only to materialize at the end of 2018.

What fascinates them are their countless possibilities, what they transform and how they transform, the shapes and gestures of objects that come to life beyond the humans who touch them. They like to emphasize the “with” in the name as opposed to the “of”, because in their artistic approach the actor/manipulator is visible and establishes an umbilical relationship with the puppet, and they argue that human and puppet have the same relevance in dramaturgy.

Closing the Festival, the company A Bolha presented its creation “Com 3 Novelos”, a story about a time when poverty led many Portuguese to try to find a better life for their families abroad. The inner color brings something of ourselves to each of the territories we inhabit, and through the metaphor of color, we create the idea of a world that can be different if we infect it and share our concerns.

A poetic creation, with a puppeteer and live music giving it a poetic, artistically delicate dimension, which led a packed audience to be moved and to recognize in this sharing its intrinsic value of beauty and social restlessness.
