• Standing 3 meters tall and 8 meters long, this incredible giant wooden snail will amaze everyone who sees it. Inside its shell lives a young inventor who, with the help of the audience and his explorer friend, will overcome every obstacle in his path. Thus begins a long journey, filling the streets with joy wherever it goes. This innovative traveling theater production is accompanied by music, lights, and special effects, all designed to enchant the audience.

My Big Snail

A story inspired by Leonardo da Vinci. Young Leonardo is a brilliant inventor who has mastered the art of artistic engineering. His skills have enabled him to build a unique vehicle—a giant wooden snail—with which he sets out on a grand journey around the world. But once his creation is complete, the snail magically comes to life and is ready to embark on this long and exciting journey with his companions. My Big Snail is a story of friendship, overcoming challenges, imagination, and wild adventures.

what the festival has to say

We wanted to bring something interesting to the Festival, something that could be performed in the street – a performance that combined puppetry with the concept of the giant. There are various companies all over the world that work with giant puppets, on a large scale, and it is always important to be able to count on these companies that offer something completely different — where, suddenly, the puppeteer is also the machinist, an operator of gears, but on a different scale, in a different dimension. This also allows us to understand that the world of puppetry is very diverse, not only in its form but also in its scale. In this edition, we had the small lambe-lambe theatres, which we once again loved to bring, where the relationship is one-to-one: miniature theatres.

But here we have this huge beast, whose aim is to captivate the eye and enchant us so that we can’t help but smile. It also allows us to realise that street art is something that is important to preserve and essential to have. Especially in a town like Espinho, which values its street space and pedestrian routes so highly, where there is a whole waterfront that invites you to take walks by the sea and enjoy the open air. This is something exceptional and deserves to be prioritised and valued as a very unique feature of the area — something worth maintaining, protecting and, of course, strolling through slowly and at one’s leisure.
