what the festival has to say

The “GIGANTES do Mar” puppet-making workshop is currently underway at the Espinho Art and Culture Forum. Under the direction of artist Marta Fernandes da Silva, the space is being filled with birds on this rainy day that invites one to seek shelter in a nest.

Over the years, the artist has developed various collaborations with the Mandrágora Theater and Puppets, creating large-scale pieces (among other things, but let’s focus on this today); these figures are constructed from wicker, a sustainable natural material that is both lightweight and durable.

The process the students undertake involves studying, building the structure, and then covering the figures with paper and painting them. But the work doesn’t end there. We also invite the students to bring these incredible creatures to life.

That is why this invitation extends to you as well: on the 17th at 4 p.m., come to the Espinho Multimeios Center to see a flock of birds take flight.
