The Pirates
Derivation of the Teatro Dom Roberto, with sculpted glove puppets, a reed and a device inspired by that of Italian peers who perform pulcinella.
If, on the one hand, we can detect the matrix of the popular theater of the robertos, at the same time, we can recognize a modern trait (material and dramaturgical dimensions).

VumTeatro is coming all the way from Terceira Island, in the Azores, to Espinho.
It will be a strong attack by “pirates”. This creation, which uses the glove puppet technique, shows us the life of pirates and their constant struggles with great humor. This creation will tour the municipality's schools and will also be presented to the general public.
Children of Espinho, facing the sea… who hasn't dreamt of having a real encounter with pirates?
VumTeatro
The VUMTEATRO Collective has been based on the island of Terceira-Azores since 2019. There are two actors, Ricardo and Raquel, an architect-sculptor, Marcos Evangelho, and Arlinda Lopes, who is a costume designer and artisan. They dedicate themselves mainly to the Dom Roberto Traditional Portuguese Theater, putting on shows from the popular repertoire but also new stories and a construction workshop for children: "robertins". In 2020 they created "Papamundos: teatro de sombras e outras inexistências", a story full of humor and play for all ages.

We invited Ricardo Ávila, who came to meet us from the island of Terceira in the Azores, to tour the schools of Espinho with his show “The Pirates”. From school to school, from group to group, there were a total of 10 performances for a thousand children.
Laughter, pirates, sharks, and explosions set the tone for this invasion, in a puppet theater work that is very close to Teatro Dom Roberto. This puppet theater is a delight, a game, an artistic dynamic full of comicality and deception with the audience.
On the 19th, he performed to a sold-out audience at the Espinho Art and Culture Forum, which left us surrendered to the attack of these crazy pirates.
