THE BEAR that WASN'T

“THE BEAR that WASN'T” is the story of a bear who lived in a forest.

“When the geese migrate south and the leaves on the trees turn yellow, red, or brown and begin to fall, Bear looks for a place to sleep, to sleep his winter sleep, to hibernate until spring…”. But while he sleeps, everything will change… and when he wakes up in spring, a big surprise awaits him…

A brilliant analogy for the time, but very topical, both in terms of its criticism of the loss of identity and its approach to capitalism, indifference and difference, routines, pollution, and the destruction of nature.

This call for reflection in such a comical way is superb. Who are we? Bears? Silly men? Or what?

what the festival has to say

This creation has toured extensively in Portugal and has also been performed internationally. The show plays with the situation of men not believing that there is a bear in front of them.

A game of rhythms, of words that follow one another to make us understand how absurd our convictions sometimes become. A captivating puppet show full of beautiful images that is sure to delight the viewer by putting many ideas and questions on the table that are worth pondering.

Márcia Leite

Márcia Leite. She was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (1974). In 1990 she ended up in Viseu, where she met a puppet theater group, Grupo Noz. Her interest and taste for theater and puppets began there and has stayed with her to this day.

Her path led her to teaching mathematics and natural sciences (2005-2012), but she never left the theater.

In 2012, she completed her master's degree in Artistic Animation at the Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu, whose final project was the motto for the development of various works with the community - “Multidisciplinary Artistic Creation - ComUnidade Project”, and from that moment on she became a creator and performing artist.

Since 2009, she has staged various creations and been a performer in shows and performances of her own, as well as those staged by other creators, especially for Zunzum - Associação Cultural.

She has continued her training and is currently studying for a PhD in performing arts and the moving image at the University of Lisbon.

She is also a guest lecturer in the Department of Communication and Art at the Viseu School of Education.

In her work as an artist, she seeks new approaches and perspectives on artistic creation and its importance for culture and art.

that's how

The Centro Multimeios de Espinho hosted the show “O URSO que NÃO ERA,” a delicate proposal that showed how human nature sometimes transforms us. In front of a packed audience, it was a moment of sharing. It was another remarkable visit to the MarMarionetas Festival.

Accompanying this creation was our sign language interpreter, working to ensure that accessibility was guaranteed for all who wished to attend the Festival.
